Indiana’s Vision of Response to Intervention

IDEA includes a new provision that allows states and school districts to use high quality, research-based instruction in general and special education to provide services and interventions to students who may be at risk or suspected of having learning disabilities. This intervention is called RTI, or Response to Intervention.

CEEP has issued a new Special Report;. Indiana’s Vision of Response to Intervention This is the first report of a three-part series on Response to Intervention (RTI) in Indiana. The research on the effectiveness of RTI is examined in-depth. A discussion of the current status of federal regulations regarding RTI, a summary of Indiana’s compliance efforts and adaptations of the RTI framework, and a description of the core components of RTI follow. The report concludes with brief information regarding the stages of implementation, the importance of fidelity of framework implementation, parental involvement, and a few of the common misconceptions regarding RTI.

  1. This is a great overview of RtI. We have found the implementation to be much more complex than indicated in the report. At the high school level, the importance of a systemic approach is paramount. However, we have found schools making considerable improvement almost immediately upon starting down this path.
